The National Tattoo Association (NTA) and the National Association for Fat Acceptance (NAFA) have joined forces. During an interview with WAFN investigative reporter Kari Mysac, local Portland, Oregon artist ‘Spider’ stated “Since obesity has been declining locally, the amount we have been able to charge for tattoo art has been declining. I first noticed this trend at one of the body art expos. The artists from Tennessee were making about 10 times more per tattoo than the artists in Portland. So a light bulb went off, and I pulled out my phone and searched for fat people associations and that is how I found NAFA! I immediately gave them a call to see how they felt about body art and it turned out they are HUGE supporters of tats. I was like ‘right on!’ The next thing you know we started an Instagram marketing hustle targeted at fat people. I am sooo stoked since my rates per tattoo are up 1200 percent! It turns out NAFA is stoked too because we are helping normalize being fat. I am not down with fat chicks, but hey, 20 bucks is 20 bucks.”
